Sixty-four per cent of women in Fiji go through some form of violence in their lives.
To address this issue, the Ministry for Women has launched the Fiji’s National Gender-based Violence Service Delivery Protocol.
President Jioji Konrote said it was time that domestic violence cases are addressed as it continues to rise.
“National Service Delivery Protocol has been made possible through extensive consultation across by the Government and the existing service providers. It provides for multisectoral response to ensure that appropriate, timely and quality services are provided to the survivors of gender-based violence.”
Fiji Women’s Crisis Center Coordinator Shamima Ali applauded the Government for taking the first step to address and solve this long-running issue.
Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Minister Mereseini Vuniwaqa said that her ministry is committed to the cause.
“The Ministry will work closely with the Fiji Police Force, Health and ITaukei Affair Ministries, UN Women and other stake holders to ensure that we adhere to the protocol,” she said.
