It is normal for the young minds to reach for the stars and with increasing opportunities in a number of fields, there are many who prefer to test their aptitude and skills in various vocations before settling down to pursue a long-time career.
“Professional pursuits do not often match academic qualifications. After all, the world out there is big enough to be explored,” says Varsha Priya, our Model of the Fortnight..
She is not sure of her future profession, but if her passion for travel is true, then she may have found the right job – currently in a travel insurance firm, which offers contacts with top travel agencies and airlines.
“I completed a course in Travel and Tourism but opportunities took me to the finance sector and after working at two major commercial banks and the finance division of a well-known manufacturing company, I moved to the travel insurance field. I love my job and the environment and passionate about what I do,” she said.
The Fiji-born (Nadi) youngster moved with her family when she was three years old. As the eldest in the family, she dotes over her siblings, a sister and a brother.
Priya is also bitten by the Bollywood bug.
“As well as watching Bollywood films and hearing popular songs, I love Bollywood dancing,” she said.
Her participation in dance competitions while at school and her appearance in Polyfest have deepened her love for show business.
Her passion in life goes beyond films, music and dance.
“I love cars and enjoy going for long drives. I also enjoy cooking,” she said.
We were not surprised by her last comment, since her father is well known in the Indian community as a master chef and caterer.
She may be unsettled as yet in her vocation but Priya hopes to become a successful businesswoman before long.
“I believe in leading a fun-filled life with love and goodwill towards all,” she said.
