Indian Newslink is a newspaper of increasing importance, a number of top leaders of the country have said.
They said this newspaper continues to grow as a significant publication, adding value to the media industry in the country.
Governor General Sir Anand Satyanand said Indian Newslink provides a distinctly New Zealand-Indian perspective on local, national and international news and current affairs.
“The work of the Indian Diaspora not only benefits New Zealand, but also New Zealand’s relationship with India by providing a ready constituency for enhanced trade, tourism, scientific and educational links,” he said, speaking at the third Indian Newslink Indian Business Awards (IBA) 2010 at the Stamford Plaza Hotel in Auckland on November 15.
“I commend Indian Newslink for initiating these business awards which reward business success and motivate New Zealanders of Indian origin to foster innovation. The prospects for the relationship between India and New Zealand are particularly favourable,” Sir Anand Satyanand said, referring to the increasing exchange visits between ministers and top officials of the two countries and the ongoing negotiations for a possible Free Trade Agreement.
Prime Minister John Key paid tribute to the Indian businesses, saying that they were significant contributors to the progress of the New Zealand economy.
“IBA has grown in size and is today a successful annual event, recognising and rewarding successes in business. I am always happy to attend the Awards Night and be with such a large gathering of business people,” he said.
Opposition Leader Phil Goff, Auckland Mayor Len Brown and Indian High Commissioner Retired Admiral Sureesh Mehta were among the other speakers.
Later, Sir Anand launched the refurbished, state-of-the-art website (which will feature daily news), Anniversary Special and November 15 issue of Indian Newslink.
Imogen Crispe, the first recipient of the Indian Newslink Scholarship at the AUT University, said the Publication encouraged her to pursue a course in communications and was looking forward to a career in the industry.
