Christmas came early for members, their children, grandchildren and guests of Manukau Seniors Association as they marked the festival on Sunday, December 4, 2016.
“It was fellowship, understanding and goodwill with prayers for the good health and prosperity of all. That is the true spirit of Christmas,” Manik Puran, President of the Association said.
The South Auckland based Association has been actively engaging elders in the Manukau City area to meet, exchange information and amuse themselves on social and religious occasions. The Christmas meeting was one such.
The changing lifestyle, environment and the cultural ethos of New Zealand are stated to be factors that affect the physical and mental fitness of aged parents and grandparents who feel neglected or bored at home.
Organisations like the Manukau Seniors Association provide avenues for such elders to remain active and happy.
“Our Association has been serving Indian and South Asian seniors and their families to ensure that they are valued and treasured by society,” Mr Puran said.
The seniors are highly appreciative and take the time to share their stories, hobbies and how much they enjoy each other’s company.
