The Nawawi Centre in Christchurch organised a public event on Sunday September 18, 2016 to celebrate Eid Al Adha.
The event, at which Mayor Lianne Dalziel was the Chief Guest, was popular with people of different cultures, ethnicities and religions.
She witnessed lunchtime prayer and addressed the gathering.
There was a range of activities including Henna, Face-Painting and inflatables.
The highlight of the event was ‘DeenQuest,’ a specially designed Islam-inspired treasure hunt.
There were food stalls offering authentic ethnic food covering several cuisines.
A special feature was a cultural lounge including a café that served delicacies of the Middle East and Turkish coffee and tea.
An art exhibition showcased different aspects of Islamic art and culture.
The stage shows had regular entertainment, cultural performances, traditional music, and martial arts.
Members of Christchurch’s Interfaith Society also visited the event.
