A Canterbury University postgraduate student has invited Indian Newslink readers and others to participate in a survey which forms a part of her study.
Vivian Shurmer, who is pursuing her Masters (MA) in Psychology is keen to have the participation of people of varies ethnicity of Asian origin including Chinese, Indian, Korean, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Filipino and others.
Her supervisors are Dr Kumar Yogeeswaran (University of Canterbury), Dr Danny Osborne (University of Auckland) and Professor Miles Hewstone (University of Oxford, UK).
Identifying barriers
“The results of the study will be used to better understand the barriers that stop different ethnic groups from being able to participate fully and equally in New Zealand society. This study seeks to understand the experiences of Asians living in New Zealand in order to develop strategies that may address such issues,” she said.
Ms Shurmer said that the information gained from the study will potentially help to develop policies and give insight into contemporary social relations.
The survey will take approx. 15 minutes and is completely confidential.
I also believe the findings from her research will be as useful to us in the community as it is to her to complete her thesis.
