The Diwali festival of the Waitakere Indian Association will be held on October 24, not a week earlier as announced in our August 15, 2010 issue.
Association President Anand Naidu said the shift was inevitable to accommodate another event being held at the Trusts Stadium on October 17.
He said all other aspects of the event will remain the same.
Mr Naidu appealed to commercial organisations and others keen on establishing stalls to contact the organisers as soon as possible.
The programme will commence at 11 am and culminate at fireworks at 1030 pm.
“Over the years, our Diwali Mela has become an important event in the social calendar of Waitakere City. The aim is to bring together people of all ethnicities in a spirit of oneness. We are fortunate that this annual Festival of Lights is supported by people from all parts of the Auckland region,” he said.
Mr Naidu said the Organising Committee was looking for music and dance performers, participants in the School Dancing Competition and Rangoli Competition, actors to stage Ramayana,’ specialists to demonstrate Yoga, businesses to display and sell food and other items.
“Diwali is the time to give, foster goodwill and understanding and enjoy with everyone in the society. We invite all ethnic groups to come together and celebrate the ‘Festival of Lights.’ The Mela will showcase India’s cultural and social heritage,” he said.
