A delectable aural treat awaits lovers of Telugu film music as a rare event goes on stage in Auckland later this month.
Ravi Muthumanickam, who has been featured in these columns on a number of occasions, is putting together a group of talented singers who will appease even those with a passing interest in such music.
Among those set to perform with him are Madhavi Subbarao, Srinivas Acharya Kidimbi, Srinivasa Rao Nandagiri, Srisudha Nampally, Venu Mohana Reddy and Vishnupriya Mallela.
The programme, called, Ravi’s Musical Night will be held on September 18 at the Mt Roskill Intermediate School Hall located at Denbigh Avenue in Mt Roskill.
Ravi said he was encouraged to organise the programme by a growing number of interested listeners.
“Many movie fans with discerning taste for melodious music said they would like an evening dedicated to Telugu film songs. It is in deference to their wishes that the forthcoming event is being put together,” he said.
He said the format would be Karaoke with no live orchestra.
“This in itself would be a challenge to the singers. We have selected a number of songs rendered by such stalwarts as Ghantasala, P Susheela, S Janaki and S P Balasubrahmanyam. We hope to do justice to their great talent,” Ravi said.
He has an impressive record of successful programmes to his credit, apart from participating in those of others.
With their wide repertoire, the local singers will present several, carefully selected songs, culled from popular Telugu films. These would include Vedam Anuvanuvuna (from the film, ‘Saagara Sangamam’), Shankara (‘Shankarabharanam’) Panchadara Bomma Bomma (‘Magatheera’), Appudo Ippodo (‘Bommarilu’) Amani Padave (‘Geethanjali’) and Akasha Desana Aashada Masana (‘Megasandesam’).
