The Indian Diaspora in general and businesses run by people of Indian origin in particular should work together to foster their strength and that of the New Zealand economy, says a prominent member of the community.
Wenceslaus Anthony, Chairman of the India New Zealand Business Council (INZBC) and the Wenceslaus Anthony Marketing Limited (WAML) said New Zealand offered the ideal business environment for entrepreneurs to establish their enterprises and grow globally but a common approach, without compromising principles of honesty, integrity and competitive spirit, would be mutually beneficial.
“Brand “New Zealand” has a premium in the international market and with all other inherent advantages, the world is open for business opportunities,” he said.
WAML and its business partner, the Chennai (India) based Teledata Informatics Limited are sponsors of the Best Medium Business category of the Indian Newslink Indian Business Awards (IBA) 2010.
Mr Anthony said the presence of a strong Indian community, comprising people from almost all parts of India added to the plurality of business culture in New Zealand.
“As well as the Indian media, there are thousands of businesses including manufacturing companies, restaurants and takeaways, service providers, professional organisations, retail outlets and others that compete with each other in offering quality products and services.
“While these, along with Indian films and cultural and religious festivals bring synergy, we could achieve better results by working together,” he said.
Since becoming the first Chairman of Indian Origin of INZBC in September last year, Mr Antony and his team have been striving to encourage New Zealand businesses to enhance their engagement with India, which he says, has a lot to offer.
An Honours Graduate in Commerce and a Postgraduate in Business Administration, Mr Antony launched his career as Deputy Director and Secretary to the Board of Studies at the Loyola Institute of Business Administration in Chennai, India. Progress in career ensued to engage him in various capacities at Jalpac India Limited, Hindustan Computers Limited (HCL), and Monotype India Limited, the last of which took him to the post of Chief Operating Officer.
A passion to seek new pastures and achieve more in life and career prompted his move to New Zealand. He was not financially opulent, but rich in contact, faith in God, Christianity and the belief that hard and since work would bring rewards.
He was not betrayed.
Today, WAML is a Group engaged in a variety of activities in a number of countries, with a team of professionals who deliver techno-commercial knowledge to ensure customer satisfaction.
His other interests include Directorship of Business Enterprises Solutions Limited, PACT Industries Pty Ltd- PACT Australia and Chairmanship of the Business Advisory Group of International College of Auckland.
His wife Susan is another Director of the Company, managing its finance and administration.
“We have a world to challenge and change and a world to win and build,” he said.

WMAL will add value to the education sector with its strategic partnership with Teledata Informatics Ltd. The first venture of the alliance is conversion of Ayurveda Knowledge CD into E-Learning.
As a specialist in education management software products, e-governance solutions for universities, tertiary and other educational institutions, the company is a significant contributor to the growth of education in India.
Listed in the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange of India, Teledata is now focusing on seamless education.
Says Krishnamurthy Padmanabhan, its Managing Director: “Our wide-range of courses and programmes will benefit school and university students, those out of jobs to acquire the requisite skills to obtain gainful employment and enable people to continue education as a lifelong process in a number of fields including banking, finance, insurance, oil & gas and food processing,” he said.
Mr Padmanabhan is a shipping industry veteran, with core competency in software development and management of people’s skills in large enterprises.
“The success of an enterprise rests on the quality of its structure, governance and the involvement of the people employed. I am sure these qualities will be reflected in the entries to the Indian Newslink Indian Business Awards 2010,” he said.
