The West Auckland Indian community will celebrate India’s Independence Day on August 7 at the Avondale Race Course on August 7.
The event, titled, Utsav (Festival) will be held from 10 am to 5 pm with free entry.
Organiser Yasmin Sait said the Festival would include all New Zealanders to showcase Indian heritage and culture.
“As well as experiencing the extensive Indian cuisine, visitors will behold a collective celebration of colourful costumes and exquisite arts and crafts.
Apart from the traditional Henna, there would be stalls displaying and selling fabrics, jewellery and other items of interest to the New Zealand community,” she said.
Ms Sait said there would be cultural shows demonstrating India’s ancient music and dance and Bollywood items.
“Amusement for children, gifts and prizes will make Utsav a family event,” she said.
She said the organisers were seeking partnership of individuals, groups and associations to create new opportunities.
“Flexibility allows us to respond to new ideas. Our aim is to create a high visibility event which caters to the community and local businesses to celebrate the diverse culture in Auckland City,” she said.
