Team NZ Muslim, comprising the New Zealand Muslim Veterans and New Zealand Muslim Seniors has just returned home after winning 12 out of 19 trophies at a major soccer tournament held in the US last week.
The two teams participated in the matches held for Main and Masters Teams at the FANCA USA 2010 at Hayward, California from July 1 to 5.
In both Divisions, the New Zealand Team won against Canada.
New Zealand Muslim Sports Association President Israr Ahmed Sheikh was justifiably proud of the performance of the team.
“There were no incidents, no issues and no problems. The team displayed high standards of professionalism and played great soccer and the result showed their calibre,” he said.
The Tournament was played on ‘Open Division Soccer’ and ‘Tug of War’ basis.
Mr Sheikh, who is also Vice-President of the Fiji Muslim Sports FANCA Federation, said it was a proud moment for the New Zealand Team.
“They won laurels in this Fiji Muslim World Cup Sports Tournament.
“Organisers of the Tournament and FANCA showed positive attitude towards all teams, players and officials,” he said.
