People in Business-Vaibhav Shinde.jpgNothing succeeds like success

When he arrived in New Zealand as a teenager four years ago to pursue the Bachelor of Business Administration course at the AUT University, his ambition was to become an entrepreneur and put to use his scholastic achievements.

But he did not envisage that his dream would become a reality in less than two years after he obtained the bachelor’s degree.

Twenty-two-year-old Vaibhav Shinde (Vicky to many) is arguably one of the youngest entrepreneurs in New Zealand, employing 19 fulltime workers in the cleaning business.

He established Sparkle Cleaners Private Limited in November 2008, to create a new niche in the market and offer an extensive range of services to owners of commercial, industrial and domestic properties. He is up on most days long before the Sun does and would be seen giving a hand to his workers in janitorial and other tasks in large buildings, offices and homes.

“This is one of the most challenging businesses in the world. It is easy to take cleaning as granted but the actual job can be tiring. Our greatest reward is customer satisfaction,” he said.

But long before he set up his own company, the young man worked in several others, buying and selling them.

The initial years of struggle as a part-time employee during his student days and later as a cleaner in a number of firms, have given him invaluable experience.

Among the most striking attributes of Sparkle Cleaners is its ability to perform almost any job related to the business. Companies and individuals can expect everything in their premises to be spick and span, including windows, carpets, furniture, workstations, conference rooms, kitchens and toilets sparkling to enhance their image.

“That is not all. From cleaning gutters, removing moss and mould, and lawn mowing to cleaning vehicles, we perform every task possible, removing not only dirt and stains but also the hassle of customers.

“Contractual cleaning services are also available to regular clients,” he said.

His penchant for doing business encouraged him to establish ‘Sparkle Education Services,’ bringing students from India to study in New Zealand. He hopes to launch into liquor business and open an Indian restaurant shortly.

“I am excited about the Indian Newslink Indian Business Awards 2010, particularly, the Best Young Entrepreneur of the Year Category,” he said.

Designed for Progress

People in Business-Rehan Sayied.jpg“The Youth have muscles of iron, nerves of steel and minds of thunderbolt; what they can achieve can transcend borders”

That famous statement of Swami Vivekananda is true of young men like Rehan Saiyed, whose Auckland based Storm Corporate Design Limited has won several citations and awards in India and the UN, apart from being a Runner-Up and Finalist in a number of contests in other countries.

Several trade publications have carried his designs to illustrate human creativity.

This native of Gujarat obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from the M S University of Baroda and Diploma in Marketing Management from Trimurthy Institute of Management Studies in the same city and Human Computer Interface Design from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Powai (Mumbai), before launching a career in the Designing.

Migrating to New Zealand in February 2002, Rehan worked for a number of design agencies, before establishing his own company.

“My bedroom doubled as a studio at the AUT TechPark in Penrose, Auckland. After a few successful projects, I established ‘Storm Corporate Design Limited’ as a complete Design studio in Newmarket,” he said.

As well as identity and logo design to web and multimedia, animation and motion graphics including architectural and interior design, the company creates integrated branding and advertising campaigns for large, medium and small companies.

Rehan today is proud of his clients in New Zealand, Oman, Saudi Arabia, US and the UK and the network is growing.

Rehan is justifiably proud of his first project that he undertook for a Hilton managed Beach Resort and Spa in Fiji.

I carried out architectural design concepts as well as branding and advertising campaign for the resort which was highly successful,” he said.

Among his recent projects are interior design and branding campaign for a café on Queen Street in Auckland’s Central Business District, an animation film for a New Zealand firm, and interior and architectural design for a three-star hotel in India.

He has just been awarded a contract for interior design of a Palace in Saudi Arabia.

“My vision is to take ‘Storm Corporate Design Limited’ to Australia, countries of the Arab Gulf Cooperation Council and Europe,” he said.

It was a moment of joy and pride when Consumer International of UK informed him that his firm has been selected to design the identity for ‘Consumer International World Congress,’ due to be held in Hong Kong in May 2011.

People in Business-Mala Deshpande.jpgFighter fights fit

Adversity raps on many doors but unlike opportunity, it knocks down the person at the prime of his or her life. However, there are people who challenge odds, fight and bounce back to good health, to carry on their business.

Among them is JayMala Deshpande, who struggled with a myriad of problems but refused to give up.

Says her husband Vishwas: “Mala is a staunch fighter. Her positive approach has helped her to regain life. She is an ideal example for many of us who give up in tough times. During this period of worldwide financial difficulties, she stood firm and started MITS (Make IT Secure Limited) and we are progressing rapidly.”

Like her husband, Mala is a businesswoman who believes in innovation with personalised service.

“Every business, big or small, needs IT solutions. Companies rely on outside professionals to provide services and solutions whenever and wherever they need. MITS is geared to offer the best possible services in the market round-the-clock. There are no borders in today’s global network,” she said.

As mentioned in our May 15, 2010 issue, the company delivers regular, critical monitoring and maintenance services to clients, assuring them of quality attention.

“We have invested in new technology that allows automation of a large portion of the maintenance and monitoring for a fraction of the price,” Mala said.

A Master of Science from the Bombay University, Mala enhanced her professional qualifications as a Microsoft Certified System Engineer and a Cisco Certified Network Associate and has worked as a lecturer in major educational institutions in Mumbai and Oman.

She has been an IT trainer and instructor in a number of institutes in Dubai, helping others to gain Microsoft Certification.

“Mala leads by example. She is a successful a businessperson today and hopes to inspire other members of the community, especially women who are keen to make a mark in their life and career. I am happy that the Indian Newslink Indian Business Awards 2010 will recognise the contributions of women as entrepreneurs with the Best Businesswoman of the Year Award,” Vishwas said.
