Bollywood brings mavericks to centre stage

Bollywood brings- I Hate Luv Storys.jpgOne of the most outstanding aspects of Bollywood is that producers and directors have the innate ability to make even run-of-the-mill stories into a bouquet of emotions that keeps making millions of people around the world enthralled.

I Hate Luv Storys, coming to the big screen on July 2, is one such. It is the tale of a young man, somewhat a chauvinist, who is forced to work with a female keen on measuring noses with him.

Imran Khan plays the role of Jay, coping with life as it comes as an assistant director to Veer Kapoor (played by Sameer Soni). The world appears to spin according to his moods, until he comes across Simran Sharma (Sonam Kapoor).

The romantic comedy thereafter takes its twists and turns, making you wonder as to how life will span out for the two seemingly opposites.

That is where debutant Director Punit Malhotra makes his mark. Setting Jay’s cynicism against Simran’s love for her boyfriend Raj (Sameer Dattani), he has taken full advantage of the triangle formula that has so often played on the Indian celluloid.

Says Punit: “This is a story of a boy who does not believe in love and a girl who believes only in love. No matter how simple this sounds, the world in which this love story has been cast is something inexplicably interwoven with my own life.”

Imaginary matchmaking is an integral part of the film industry and their exuberant youth and closeness during shooting schedules not only raised eyebrows but also filled the ever-hungry gossip columns of magazines.

“We were a young team; we bonded well on the sets, which sparked off the rumours. Now that we are no longer shooting, no one is talking about us. Such rumours die their own death and hence I do not react,” Punit said but did not fail to pay a tribute to Sonam.

“She is a wonderful but under-rated actor.”

He learnt the nuances of production and direction during his ten years of association as an assistant with veteran Producer-Director Karan Johar. He was thrilled when the latter allowed him to use his banner as Producer, along with C Ashwini Dutt.

I Hate Luv Storys has been shot in Queenstown, adding to worldwide interest.

Mind Blowing Films Limited is bringing the film to audiences on either side of the Tasman on July 2.
