The quick thinking of AIA Corporate Business Development Manager, Kylie Stubbs helped save the life of an international broker after he suffered a heart attack in April.
Kylie is relatively new to the AIA team, having been in the role only for six months.
She was undertaking some routine phone calls to check in on her team and customers, when she spoke with the broker.
Not a joke
“While we were talking on the phone, he complained of feeling faint and tight in the chest. About five minutes into our conversation the phone just dropped to the ground. I yelled out a couple of times, but had no response. Then I tried calling him back and he did not answer… Normally he is a bit of a joker but something felt off,” she said.
Kylie immediately phoned the broker’s office and spoke with his colleague, who quickly started looking for him.
Shortly afterwards, she discovered him in a meeting room, collapsed on the floor and unresponsive.
She phoned 111 straight away and began using the office defibrillator until the ambulance came.
The broker spent two weeks in hospital and is now recovering at home.
A week after the incident, Kylie visited him at the hospital where his wife thanked her for saving his life, saying she was a ‘rock star.’
“I always like to follow up with my customers – regular and personal communication is part of my job and is also an important value in the AIA culture. I believe I had just made the call at the right time, and I’m so pleased he is doing well,” Kylie said.
