Ten foster care families of the country were honoured at an Awards ceremony held at the Government House on March 11, 2016.
The Awards are hosted by Governor General Sir Jerry Mateparae and Lady Janine Mateparae. Child, Youth and Family and Fostering Kids New Zealand partner to present the awards.
Foster carers do an exceptional job, taking children and young people into their homes, often in the middle of the night, and giving them a safe and loving family.
The Excellence in Foster Care Awards acknowledges caregivers who go above and beyond for the children and young people who come into their families.
There are about 3600 Child, Youth and Family approved caregivers providing care for more than 4200 children and young people in out-of-home placements.
Children who come into care have experienced horrible abuse and neglect and it is vital that our caregivers are supported to help these children and young people begin to heal.
