Auckland Police have identified the body found on Mission Bay beach last month as that of 21-year-old Manjeet Singh, an international student from India.
A passer-by found his body on the morning of May 13 and the cause of his death and other circumstances are under investigation.
According to available information, he was last seen alive previous night at McDonald’s Restaurant in Britomart, about seven kms away from the incident.
Police inquiries into how Mr Singh came to be in the water are continuing and officers will be examining CCTV footage, bank and phone records to try and establish his movements and who he was with in the city on days preceding the incident.
Good student
Mr Singh, a student of International College of Auckland, was due to complete a Diploma course in Business this month.
Student Services Advisor Linda Chang said that Mr Singh was an exemplary student at the college.
“He was a hard worker and he regularly turned up to his classes. He did good assignments and he had a few friends in his classes,” she said.
