A group of devotees of Lord Shiva are organising ‘Maha Mrityunjaya Pooja,’ invoking the Blessings of the Destroyer of Evil in Auckland later this month.
Guru Shivacharya Sadashiva of Vancouver, Canada, will conduct this important event at Shiv Mandir, located at 43 Holmes Road in the South Auckland suburb of Manurewa on Sunday, May 24, 2015 from 8 am.
The programme will begin with the arrival of Guru Ji Shivacharya and ‘Guru Pooja’ by Rohit Deo and his family, followed by ‘Guru Bhajan’ by the youth.
The main event will commence at 930 am with Ganesh Pooja, Shiva Pooja (along with ‘108 Shiv Linga Pooja’ and Pravachan by Shivacharya. ‘Aarti’ will be at 1215 pm, preceded by speeches by Dalip Raju and Arjun Sami.
Simple teachings
Speaking to Indian Newslink during his visit last month, Guru Shivacharya said that his teachings do not entail difficult rituals and strictures.
“My teachings are simple and straightforward. I explain the values of life and how to seek and acquire happiness through love and friendship. My approach to cleanliness of body, soul and mind is easily understood and practiced,” he said.
Powerful Ritual
Maha Mrityunjaya Pooja, which include Homam and Mantra Japa are always dedicated to Lord Shiva. Stated to be the most powerful ritual for getting relief from severe health problems, this Pooja has reportedly brought robust health, enduring happiness and good fortune to people with faith.
“Lord Maha Mrityunjaya Mahadev is the conqueror of Death and therefore by getting His blessings through this Homam and Pooja, even untimely death can be prevented. This Homam is helpful in pacifying the negative effects of planets Rahu and Ketu if they are wrongly placed in a person’s horoscope,” Guru Shivacharya said.
Yagnas, which are essentially community prayers led by Vedic pundits and scholars, have been in practice for thousands of years. Emperors and Kings would petition their Gurus and sages to conduct such Yagnas to ensure good monsoons for better harvest, peace and harmony in the society and good health for people.
Keeping Faith
Guru Shivacharya, who speaks fluent Kannada, English, Hindi and a number of other languages, said that people should help and not harm each other.
“Never lose faith and belief in God. Believe in Him through whichever name you choose, but never stop believing. Worship God with dedication and devotion and you will receive His Grace,” Shivacharya said.
Organising Committee members Arjun Sami and Rohit Kumar said that the Yagna will be first of its type to be held in New Zealand.
“The programme will include Ganapathi Pooja and Kalash Sthapana on the first day, while the second day will witness Suprapatham, Yagya, Prayers, Poornahuthi and Shanthi Paath. The 108 Kalash were made for us specially in India. Each Kalash will contain the Holy Water that can be used at all religious ceremonies,” they said.
