A training provider, top-rated by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) is offering courses, with the option for trainees to pay the cost after obtaining employment.
The cost of the courses is estimated at $5000 per person.
The courses, of ten to 12 weeks duration, are designed as cost-effective and tailored alternatives to expensive, three-year university degrees.
They are also stated to be very attractive career transitioning courses.
The programmes include mentor-supported work experience with leading IT businesses such as Datacom, AMP, Fonterra and Salesforce.
Reshaping Tertiary Education
Mission Ready, a firm based in the Central Business District in Auckland, claimed that this is the first of its kind in New Zealand’s tertiary education sector.
Co-Founder Diana Sharma said that the pioneering approach aims to reshape tertiary education in New Zealand with the potential to alleviate tech-sector challenges related to cost of living, skill shortages, and poor diversity.
“That is our guarantee to help remove barriers to entry into an industry crying out for talent and diversity. New Zealand’s tech industry is chronically short of new talent and our vision is to fill that tech-skills gap by diversifying the talent pool and empowering unemployed and underemployed students,” she said.
Ms Sharma said that with ‘Train Now: Pay on Success,’ her company was removing the financial barrier, fostering diversity, and assuring students that they will only repay once they are successfully employed in their new careers.
“Because we passionately believe in our programmes – accelerating tech talent development and career success through fast-paced, industry-relevant micro-credentials, we wanted to do something tangible to help new talent from different pathways overcome the real cost of living challenges and take that first step,” she said.
High success rate
It is understood that since its launch in 2019, Mission Ready has achieved an 87% job success rate for graduates.
Ms Sharma said that her firm started with the confidence that success will not be elusive.
According to her, Mission Ready created the country’s first tech career accelerator programmes four years ago to combat the industry’s skills shortage.
“Since then, we have successfully trained more than 500 tech professionals, but the latest Digital Skills Aotearoa Report suggests that the industry still needs 4000 to 5000 new tech professionals each year. Maori and Pasifika represent less than 4% and 3% respectively,” she said.
Describing the courses as ‘barrier breakers,’ Ms Sharma said that the courses will help the company to generate the demand for new graduates from a wide background and new channels that its partner businesses need.
Mission Ready is a top NZQA-rated, category 1, tech-training provider committed to addressing the tech industry’s skills shortage. Since 2019, Mission Ready has trained over 500 tech professionals in high-demand roles, delivering cost-effective, tailored alternatives to traditional university degrees. With a strong focus on diversity and real-world experience, Mission Ready is revolutionising tertiary education in New Zealand.
