Indo-Australian singer, Shriram Iyer (who likes to be known as Siyer) has filed his nomination for this year’s Grammy Awards.
His single, Nindiya, a song on mothers experiencing the ‘empty nest moment’ has reportedly been well received by peers and the audience.
Earlier this year, The Recording Academy (the home of the Grammy Awards) invited Siyer to join as a Voting Member in the Class of 2023.
About Nindiya
This heart-warming song is a tribute to mothers, capturing the poignant moment when their adult child leaves the nest. It delicately portrays a mother’s first night alone, weaving an imaginary dialogue between her and her offspring.
With tender lyrics and a gentle melody, it explores the pride and longing within her as she reflects on cherished memories. The song invites listeners to empathize with the unspoken emotions of mothers everywhere, celebrating their unconditional love and unwavering support.
It uses the story of Lord Krishna and his mother Yashoda to represent all mothers and their adult children.
Grammy Class of 2023
Siyer said that he is pleased to be in the Grammy Class of 2023.
“It is very rewarding to be recognised for my body of work and 23-year career as a musician, especially when it comes from one of the peak bodies of music,” he said.
Last year, he had a taste of the Grammy experience when his collaboration with Bobby Beebob, ‘The Saffron Groove Project’ made it to the Grammy Ballot as an official entry. Despite not being nominated, Siyer was pleased by how far the album went, saying that taking part in the formal ‘FYC Campaign’ process was a learning in itself.
Rolling Stone India even premiered one of Siyer’s songs on their reputed portal.
This year, Siyer expressed his interest in joining The Recording Academy as a Voting Member, allowing him to officially submit entries as well as vote towards nominations and winners across multiple categories.
“The process was rightfully challenging as The Recording Academy asks for two strong recommendations from full-time musical professionals to even kick-start the process. It feels good to have earned it,” he said.
Siyer’s debut album ‘Is Dhundh Mein’ was released by musical legend Shankar Mahadevan and featured a duet with playback singer Sadhna Sargam.
Siyer’s musical journey
In a career spanning 23 years, Siyer has performed multiple times with Shankar Mahadevan, Sadhna Sargam, and Udit Narayan and has opened shows for Usha Uthup, Ali Azmat (Junoon) and Rahul Vaidya to name a few.
Based in Melbourne, Siyer has now appeared in more than 500 concerts, including performances at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, The Sydney Cricket Ground, The St Kilda Festival and the Moomba Festival. His story is a true case of multicultural success, given that his work has been featured on Channel V, MTV India and Australia’s Channel 7.
Does the future have a Grammy in store for the talented Siyer?
“I am not thinking about the results or the factors that I cannot control. I am focused on the process, and I am enjoying the journey,” he said.
