Life in any part of the World gets even more beautiful with people who share your culture, beliefs, childhood memories and language.
It is the celebrations and brotherhood within the community that makes the Indian diaspora a special one. Many cultural groups from various parts of the ever-vibrant Indian subcontinent come together to make sure that the next generation grows up with similar values and to ensure a support system for all the adults.
Auckland Malayali Samajam recently marked ‘Record Participation’ in their Annual Children’s arts festival ‘Kalolsavam 2023,’ with children across all age groups showcasing their talents and presenting many memorable performances.
About the event
Hosted over the weekend on Saturday, July 15, 2023, Kalolsavam 2023 (Children’s Arts Festival) saw an impressive number of performers with all three stages of Blockhouse Bay community centre packed with talented young minds, their parents and art enthusiasts, from the start of the event, with the event officially opening from 8 am onwards.
The participants amused the audience through their charming performances from traditional classical dances to modern cinematic dance performances.
Auckland Malayali Samajam President Blessan M Jose said, “I am delighted to acknowledge and applaud the exceptional talent displayed by the young participants in our recent Children’s Art Festival. It is truly inspiring to witness their creativity and artistic abilities at such a young age. These talented children have not only showcased their skills but have also brought joy and enriched our community through their artwork. We are proud to have provided a platform for their talents to shine, and we hope to continue nurturing and supporting their artistic journeys. Our heartfelt congratulations go out to each and every participant and their families.”
The event coordinators Julie Vinu, Daisy Sujo and Archa Ravikumar were applauded for their contribution and unrelenting support in bringing the event to life. Many families that attended the event admired its concept and many of them shared with Indian Newslink their thought that the Children’s Art Festival is a must-do in their families. Many of the performers had participated last year and were excited to be a part of it again and showcase their talents with their friends, families and community.
The winners at each event were awarded medals and certificates at the end of the Arts Festival. The winners of the Kalathilakam and Kalaprathibha will be presented with their awards and certificates at our upcoming Onam celebrations on August 19, 2023. Event Food stall which served delicious traditional Kerala cuisine added spice to the event.
About the organisers
Auckland Malayali Samajam marks its 25th Anniversary this year.
Established with the aim of bringing together all the Malayalis of Auckland to foster friendship and for the well-being of the Malayali community as well as that of the New Zealand society, some of the events organised by the organisation are much awaited by the members of other communities.
Through regular cultural, social, educational and sporting activities, the Auckland Malayali Samajam has provided a high-level of social interaction and engagement for the community, while sharing the cultural heritage with the younger generation.
Mr Jose said, “It is our endeavour to present our cherished legacy and values to the next generation while they are integrating into the New Zealand culture. We celebrate social and religious festivals traditionally celebrated in our homeland to keep alive our strong bond with Kerala.”
