Waikato Police have arrested two youths following a burglary in Hamilton in the early hours of Morning on Sunday, May 28, 2023.
At around 4.20am a commercial premises on Killarney Road was broken into and vape products were stolen.
A vehicle used to gain entry to the premises was abandoned at the scene and the offenders fled.
Police were quick in their actions and immediately executed a search warrant at a residential address in Hamilton East, following which the two youths were arrested and some of the stolen items were recovered.
The two youths, aged 15-years-old and 17-years-old, are scheduled to appear in Hamilton Youth Court on Monday, May 29, 2023, charged with burglary offences relating to the burglary and other recent ram raid offences, in Hilcrest and Glenview that took place on May 23, 2023.
“Quick work from our staff has resulted in the offenders being held accountable and stolen property being recovered,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Terri Wilson.
“We hope this gives our community reassurance that we take this offending extremely seriously and will respond, investigate and bring offenders before the courts.”
What the numbers say
The latest crime snapshot issued by New Zealand Police states that for a period from April 2022 till March 2023, there have been a total of 20,204 crimes in Hamilton. All crimes went up by [4,066] compared to the previous period.
Of these, 13,652 thefts, and 4,347 burglaries were reported in the Hamilton city Area, while the toll for robberies was 377.
While quick Police action is praised by the members of public at large in Hamilton following recent arrests, it is the timely reporting of such incidents that the Police count as their strong suit, and something that helps them act with precision and tact.
