A great ethnic background and mixed cultures add value to human life and distinguish a personality, says Sadhana Walsh, our Model of the Fortnight.
She also believes that the ability to speak a second language works as a great advantage.
Born in Wellington to a Fijian mother of Indian origin and a New Zealander father of European descent, Sadhana has had the best of four cultures but takes pride in calling herself a Kiwi Indian.
A student of Early Childhood Education and Health Psychology, her ambition is to foster her career in the education sector following her graduation in the next two years.
“However Bollywood Dance is my passion and I know that I can be successful,” she said, having won a number of prizes in solo and group competitions.
Compassionate & Responsible
Sadhana is a compassionate young woman who undertakes voluntary work and performs at dance events to raise funds for a number of charitable, social and community causes. These have in recent years included the New Zealand Cancer Society, Entertainment for Disabled Children and Fiji Flood Relief.
She is happy and proud that she has gained limelight in the past few months.
“I have come to be better recognised within the Indian community after I entered Miss Indianz and won a few minor prizes such as Miss Talent, Miss Beautiful Skin, Miss Potential Model and Miss Photographic Model. This experience has inspired great self-confidence in me and motivated me to increase my involvement with the Indian community,” she said.
Pausing to Reflect
Sadhana is also pleased that her teaching career has taught her to reflect on her life and helped her to recognise who she is and trace her roots.
