I am honoured to have been chosen to take Ross Robertson’s place as the Labour Party candidate for Manukau East.
After 27 years of dedicated service, Ross is retiring, and with your support, I will represent our electorate with the same energy that he has brought advocating for the people of Manukau East and standing for the values that make New Zealand strong – Labour values.
As the Labour candidate for Manukau East, I have been working hard to meet as many people as possible. I have visited our community Temples and Churches, and visited as many of our local businesses as possible.
My team of volunteers and I have knocked on thousands of doors, made thousands of phone calls, held dozens of street corner meetings and enrolled thousands of new voters in Manukau East. This has been the chance to listen very carefully to the people of my constituency, and many of you have told me what is truly important in your lives: families, jobs, education and housing.
For many of our hardworking local families and communities, the last six years have been very difficult.
Pathway to progress
Labour offers the pathway to a better New Zealand, for all New Zealanders, on September 20, 2014. Our communities in Otahuhu, Otara, Papatoetoe and Middlemore need quality jobs, decent wages, affordable homes and the best educational opportunities for families.
New Zealand was the land of opportunity for me and I am committed to ensuring that it remains the land of opportunity for all New Zealanders.
Like many people in Manukau East, I migrated to New Zealand with my family.
I completed degrees in education and law at the University of Auckland and I have worked for 20 years mainly in the public sector as a senior official in policy, contract management and funding roles, providing advice in the areas of health, social policy and education.

My husband and I have been blessed with two daughters, and we would like them to have what we want for all New Zealanders; what we had when we grew up in this great nation – a fair go, opportunities for all, and a decent society that takes care of everyone.
I would like to invite you and your family to join me in electing a Labour Government at this year’s General Election. A Labour government will put people first, because people matter most. On the September 20, please Vote Salesa for Manukau East and Party Vote Labour for a change in Government.

While we farewell our long-serving dedicated Labour MP Dr Rajen Prasad this year, we have a whole team of Indian candidates on our Labour List, including Priyanca Radhakrishnan, Anjum Rahman and Sunny Kaushal.

Important Election
This year’s election is an important one. While the Election Day is September 20, you can vote early from now until polls close on that day. In Manukau East, you can vote early at the Papatoetoe Library, 30 Wallace Road; Shop 24, Hunters Plaza Shopping Centre, 217 Great South Road, Papatoetoe; Otahuhu Community Library, 12 High Street; and at the Otara Library, corner of Newbury Road and Watford Street. Outside of Manukau East, early voting is available at most public libraries in Auckland and you can call 09-274-8263 to confirm you are on the electoral roll, voting hours and your nearest voting location.
