The Fijian Elections Office (FEO) has released the Provisional List of Voters for the General Election scheduled to be held on September 17, 2014.
“This is in line with the Electoral Decree, which requires that a voter can only vote at the polling Station to which he or she is assigned,” Mohammed Saneem, Supervisor of Elections said in a statement.
He said that the Provisional List, released on July 30, contains the names of registered voters for each venue as well as the name of Polling Venue.
There will be 1337 Polling Venues and 1987 Polling Stations and 1987 Polling Stations
Registered Voters can now download this information and ascertain their polling booth.
The Fijian Elections Office has utilised the Geographic Information Software of the Department of Lands to assign voters to Polling Venues nearest to their residential address provided at the time of registration.
Changing venue
“If you are listed in a Polling Venue that is no longer convenient for you, we have a simple ‘Change of Polling Station Application Form‘ that should be completed and submitted to the nearest FEO office before 6 pm on August 20, 2014. This is the reason why we have been urging voters to inform us about any changes in residential address,” he said.
Weekly updates
He said that his Office will continue to update the Provisional List every week and if a voter has applied for a change, it will confirmed or denied the following week.
“We expect the Writ to be issued on August 4 and voter registration will close on that day. There were 570,000 voters registered as at June 30, 2014,” Mr Saneem said.
He urged all Fijians holding valid Fijian passports to register prior to August 4, 2014.
