Miss Indianz 2022 is expected to enlist larger participation with the organisers removing the age bar, departing from the earlier limit of 25 years.
Rhythm Events and Films is organising the programme, known for its high quality of content, on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at SkyCity Theatre, Auckland City.
The Entry process
Producer-Director Dharmesh Parikh said that while there is no upper age limit, contestants must be at least 18 years old to participate on their own.
“Those who are between 16 and 18 years of age can enter the competition with the written consent of their parent, guardian, or caregiver. We have called for entries which can be made either by text Indianz to 4199 or on our website www.missindianz.co.nz,” he said.
Mr Parikh said that the decision to remove the age bar was taken to allow wider participation of women of the Diaspora in New Zealand.
“We are moving with the times, making changes to suit the dynamics of the modern world. Two years ago (2002), when Miss Indianz was launched, it was the first pageant in New Zealand to do away with the Bikini round. We were also the only beauty competition that did not have a height limit. We are always listening to our stakeholders and keeping up with the evolving trends,” he said.
Indian Newslink and Radio Tarana are the only two organisations that have been a part of Miss Indianz throughout its 20-year journey, sharing the anxieties, challenges and problems and supporting Rhythm Events and Films in overcoming them.
Celebration of Culture
“Arguably, there is no other event to match the calibre and extent of Miss Indianz. It has long ceased to be a mere beauty pageant. It is an evening to celebrate culture, intelligence, alacrity – everything in fact that glorifies our young women. A parade of costumes, jewellery and charm, highly charged entertainment, selection of winners in various sub-categories and the announcement of the winner of the main title (Miss Indianz) and the First and Second Runner-Up. This is the ultimate celebration of culture, dance, and music,” Mr Parikh said.
Winners receive prizes and gifts valued at more than $3000.
“Considered to be the fantastic launchpad into acting, modelling and entertainment, Miss Indianz also enables contestants to gain more confidence and is an outlet to express and celebrate their unique heritage. The audience is treated to a spectacular show unlike anything else on offer in Auckland,” Mr Parikh said.
“Training workshops are conducted by industry professionals in the lead-up to the event. Contestants will be promoted by New Zealand’s leading ethnic media, including Radio Tarana and Indian Newslink,” he added.
A unique brand
We have always encouraged Mr Parikh to follow principles of honesty, integrity, accountability, and transparency and have enabled him to establish Miss Indianz as a unique brand that attracts young talent and aspirants.
“We do not ask our contestants to seek sponsorship or sell tickets for the show but request them to concentrate on their costumes, various segments of the show including the talent and Q&A Round. There is no burden on them. The only tough part of Miss Indianz is the intense competition that the contestants face because is each is as good as the other,” Mr Parikh said.
