Launching into business in a sector that is fiercely competitive requires not only courage but also self-confidence and financial strength.
In the case of owner-operated enterprises, the support of the family, especially the spouse, is imperative.
Divya Nayyar, owner of SSPRN New Zealand Limited, which trades in the name of Saluja’s Food & Spices at 13/2 Bishop Dunn Place in East Tamaki (Auckland), follows a tough schedule but remains energetic and enthusiastic. She mentioned that she purchased the running enterprise in November last year with clear objectives, which have become her mission in life.
“We wish to take this retail store to a higher level and create a niche in the market. Our goal is to make Saluja’s Food & Spices an epitome for business ethics, tidiness, quality goods and reasonable prices. We want our customers to experience quality service and the difference in shopping at our store,” she said.
This supermarket has grown to cater to people of Indian origin, including those from India, Fiji, South Africa and other parts of the world, Malaysian, Chinese, people from the Middle East and Kiwis.
For a mother of two young children, managing a family and a supermarket may appear to be a formidable task but Divya enjoys the routine of at least 12 hours a day throughout the year.
“It is indeed a pleasure to serve people and I believe that the greatest reward for all hard work is seeing a smile on their faces,” Divya said.
