Towards the end of each academic year, the Christchurch Press asks all 34 secondary colleges in Canterbury to nominate ‘The Most Outstanding Student from their final year 13 class.
The newspaper honours such students, who almost always represent diverse interests, contributions, leadership and rallying to a brighter future.
Rahul George (son of our Christchurch-based South Island Correspondent Dr George Abraham) was nominated from St Bede’s College.
As well as being the Head Boy last year, Rahul has a record of outstanding achievements throughout his school years. As a modest, well-mannered and multi-talented young man, he is a source of endearment to all.
Versatile achiever
He is a top academic performer, talented actor, a musician and an excellent public speaker. He won in two New Zealand national music competitions, against almost 4000 competitors across the country in 2010. His own songs, ‘Make a Change’ and ‘Society’s Tale’ were declared winners in the New Zealand National Song Competitions conducted by TVNZ and Caritas New Zealand.
Rahul has also played the lead role in, ‘Love at second Sight,’ a film that has earned several accolades.
Oratory & Sports
He represented St Bede’s College in Speech, Debate and Soccer competitions in various Canterbury and national championships. He was awarded ‘The Blue Riband’ (Ignatius O’Boyle Cup) and Gold Medal for ‘The Best and Most Generous use of Talent’ in all aspects of the college life.
He was a Youth MP in the 2013 Youth Parliament.
Rahul has been awarded the prestigious Canterbury University Russel McVeagh Law Scholarship’ to pursue a career in Law, the Lincoln University ‘Leigh & Judith Pownhall Scholarship’ and the Otago University ‘Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship.’
Rahul intends to study Law and Music at the Canterbury University this year. His elder sister Sneha [Otago University] was in the ‘High Achievers’ List’ of Christchurch Press in 2010, from the Christchurch Marian College.
