A local educational institution has launched a scholarship programme that would benefit an international student from India every year.
Prince of Arcot Nawab Mohammed Abdulla Ali, who was in Auckland (courtesy of BNZ and Indian Newslink) as a Guest of Honour, launched the programme at the International College of Auckland (ICA) located at 131 Queen Street in the Central Business District on November 18, 2013.
The Scholarship, named after ICA Local Advisory Board Chairman Wenceslaus Anthony, will provide for tuition fee for two years to an international student from India, chosen by a Committee, under the Chairmanship of Bhav Dhillon, a local businessman and co-owner of Indian Weekender.
The members of the Committee include Dr N Casimir Raj of Chennai, India and ICA Principal James Zhu.
The Pillar
Prince Nawab said that the Scholarship will help students who cannot afford high costs of education in New Zealand.
“Education is one of the pillars of the society and its significance in promoting progress and prosperity of a country cannot be over-emphasised. Good education initiates cultural and social harmony, which is the most important attribute to peaceful coexistence, mutual respect and tolerance,” he said.
Among the other speakers at the event were Indian High Commission Councillor Sanjay Verma, Members of Parliament Dr Rajen Prasad and Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi, Mr Zhu, ICA Dean Qaiser Rashid and Mr Anthony were among the other speakers.
