It is with regret we announce the death of Inder Singh, former President of the Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) based in Los Angles, USA.
GOPIO International Chairman Dr Thomas Abraham said that Mr Singh was admitted to a Hospital near Los Angeles and that the end came this morning (Friday in the USA).
Mr Singh is a Founding Life Member of GOPIO and until his death Chairman and Executive Trustee of the GOPIO Foundation.
“I spoke to Inder on September 20 and he had told me that he would be going to the Hospital on September 22, 2019 and that he was drafting a letter for the announcement of GOPIO Election. It is a great loss for all of us, GOPIO, Indian community in the USA and the Indian Diaspora. May his soul rest in peace,” he said.

Indian Newslink has had a long association with Mr Singh, dating back to 2005 when he contacted us about formation of a GOPIO Chapter in New Zealand. The Organisation had a tumultuous start and little is known about their activity in this country.
Mr Singh was one of the architects of the ‘Overseas Citizen of India’ Scheme implemented by the Indian government in 2006. He was also instrumental in the launch of ‘Pravasi Bharatiya Divas,’ which began as an annual event in 2003 but became a biannual conference during the first term of the Narendra Modi government.
