Chennai-based renowned young vocalist Shankar Adityanarayanan will perform in Christchurch on Saturday, 7th June, and in Wellington on Sunday, 8th June.
Revathi Performing Arts and the New Zealand Carnatic Music Society are organising a lecture demonstration and a mini vocal concert in association with the University of Canterbury at the University of Canterbury Arts Recital Room, 3 Hereford Street, Christchurch Central City, on 7th June at 2 pm.
Accompanied by Mirudhangam artist Avinash Jeyashankar, Adityanarayanan will delve into the science and artistry of vocal production, exploring respiration, phonation, resonance, articulation, and vocal registers. The session will also discuss stylistic variations across cultures, debunk vocal myths, and provide insight into Indian classical voice culture in comparison to contemporary vocal techniques.
The interactive session will include a Q&A and live vocal training, making it a valuable experience for aspiring vocalists and music enthusiasts.
Wellington: Melodies of the South
The Wellington Mutamizh Sangam and New Zealand Carnatic Music Society are organising a concert of the artists at Hutt City Musical Theatre, Lower Hutt at 4.30 pm on Sunday, 8th June.
Shankar Adityanarayanan
A gifted Carnatic vocalist, Adityanarayanan has been performing for over 15 years, training under Sangeetha Kala Acharya Suguna Varadachari and Sangeetha Kalanidhi T M Krishna.
His accomplishments include prestigious awards such as Junior Best Vocalist by Madras Music Academy (2023) and Yuva Kala Bharathi (2022) and an ‘A Grade Artist’ rating at All India Radio. He has performed extensively in India, the USA, UK, and Portugal, collaborating with international artists on several music albums.
Avinash Jeyashankar
A versatile percussionist, Avinash has trained since the age of six, earning recognition as ‘Vadya Visharad’ by the New Zealand Carnatic Music Society. His Arangetram in 2018 marked a significant milestone in his career. He is a Doctor of Medicine (MD) student.
Arushi Ramesh
Having trained under Vidushi Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi and Lalgudi Jayaraman, Arushi has honed her craft for 15 years. She has won numerous accolades and performed extensively in India, Australia, New Zealand, and the Middle East. A specialist in rhythmic improvisation, she has also contributed to the film Sarvam Thala Mayam.
