Welcome to Indian Newslink Digital Edition dated November 1, 2021, carrying with it a 21-Page Special Report, with articles and features written by our readers and contributors.

Diwali will remain subdued in several parts of the world as Covid-19 continues its nasty spread. Nonetheless, they will pray for the welfare of humankind, which is the essence of Hinduism and the spirit of Diwali.

As Hindus, Sikhs and others mark Diwali on November 4, we are confident that good sense will prevail among people so that our children will embark on their lives, careers and businesses with greater confidence and competence. The World has witnessed too many wars, conflicting ideologies and destruction and it is time to end this untoward parade.

Diwali is an occasion in which we rejoice with our men, women and children who celebrate the festival in their homes with men, women and children who do not celebrate the festival in their homes.

It is the beginning of a season of plenty, ending an era of pain and agony. It is the dawn of hope and confidence, following the end of a night of mares and misgivings. To some it is the beginning of a New Year; to others, it is the restart of another cycle of good tidings.

Whatever be the connotation, Diwali brings with it the festive mood.

It would be one occasion when people will forget their financial woes, market debacles and perhaps even Covid-19, not beaching of course its restrictions.

From its religious overtones of yesteryears, Diwali has transcended to become a social occasion when people of varied faiths and beliefs get together to mark a day or two with such unprecedented gaiety that it would seem as though there is no morrow.

Indian Newslink expresses its gratitude to advertisers, sponsors, contributors, suppliers, readers, judges and well-wishers for their patronage and support. May those marking their New Year, find it more prosperous and progressive than ever before.

Special Significance for Judge Ajit Swaran Singh

November 4 is a special day in the life and career of Dr Ajit Swaran Singh, Judge of the Auckland District Court. For, it was on this day in 2002 that he was sworn in as a District Court Judge. And this year- November 4, 2021 will be observed as Diwali Day by people of Indian origin throughout the world; it also marks the reappointment of Judge Ajit Swaran Singh as District Court Judge after he officially retired on October 17, 2021 when he completed 70 years. We join hundreds of people- family, colleagues and friends- in greeting him on his double achievement and welcome him to the 70s Club. As we have been experiencing, septuagenarians enjoy the golden age in their lives.

In an article exclusive to Indian Newslink he says, “On November 4, 2002, on the auspicious occasion of Diwali, I was appointed as a District Court Judge. By Divine Providence, for the first time in 19 years, Diwali is once again on November 4, 2021.

My retirement and reappointment as a Judge, on an Acting Warrant, during the Diwali season is yet another happy coincidence.

Judicial service over the 19 years has been very rewarding and satisfying. Whilst challenging, the journey has been extremely pleasant. Likewise, rendering almost five decades of community service has given me immense satisfaction.

Happy Diwali!
