Auckland-based Sri Venkateshwara Devasthanam Charitable Trust has just published its first Wall Calendar, in deference to the wishes of many devotees.

The Calendar is priced at $10 and can be purchased by remitting the amount to the Bank Account of the Trust: 02-1263-0021465-000 (Reference Calendar 2025). Please email info@svdnz.org with your postal address.

The aesthetically designed six-sheeter with back-to-back Calendar pages carries exquisite photographs of Lord Venkateshwara and the Avatars of Lord Vishnu, each mentioning important festivals and observances of the month as a footer. Each day of the week also carries Varjyam and Rahu Kalam, with mathematical precision.

While Rahu Kalam for instance is mentioned in broad terms as 90 minutes each day of the week, the actual time could vary according to Sunrise and Sunset. This Calendar will therefore be useful for devotees who wish to be ‘astrologically accurate’ in determining auspicious times.

A Community Effort

Sri Venkateshwara Devasthanam Charitable Trust Chairman Indra Sirigiri described the Calendar as a ‘Community effort, from its conception stage to printing.’

“We appeal to our devotees to patronise this project by purchasing the Calendar, which will greatly contribute to the spiritual and pious development of the upcoming Temple for Lord Venkateshwara. Your participation will make a significant difference to the progress of our Temple,” he said.

The Venkateshwara Calendar 2025 is a visual and spiritual feast adorned with captivating photographs of the Lord and is more than a mere collection of dates and images. It is a profound testament to the rich tapestry of Hindu mythology and an emblem of the Temple’s mission to foster community spirit and devotion.

The proposed temple in Auckland is envisioned as a sanctuary of peace, spirituality, and cultural heritage. It aims to serve as a beacon for the Hindu community, providing a sacred space for worship, meditation, and community activities.

The TTD Inspiration

The Temple’s design will be inspired by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam in Andhra Pradesh, the Original Abode of Lord Venkateshwara, attracting millions of devotees of varied faiths from all over the world. The proposed Temple in Auckland will be another significant Home for the Lord, complete with a divine environment, rituals and religious rites.

As well as choosing appropriate images for each of the months in the 2025 Calendar, care has been taken to provide important information such as the Nakshatra, Thithi and other details for each day of the year. While the images will serve as daily reminders of the Divine presence and the timeless teachings of Hinduism, the Calendar will be a source of endearment, encouraging devotees to reflect on the virtues and lessons embodied by the deities.

The calendar also plays a pivotal role in uniting the community. It is a tangible representation of the proposed Temple’s commitment to preserving and promoting Hindu culture and traditions. By distributing the Calendar, the Temple Project will foster a sense of belonging and shared purpose, reminding the community of their collective heritage and spiritual journey.

Teachings of Sri Ramanujar

Sri Ramanujar (c. 1017-1137), the great Hindu Philosopher, Guru and Social Reformer, who led the Sir Vaishnavism tradition of Hinduism,  emphasised that all beings are equal in the eyes of God and that salvation comes through worshipping God with love and devotion.

“All are equal in the eyes of God. All are equally qualified to chant the name of God and enter a Temple. The Creator showed no partiality, nor should we,” he said.
