Her stories may have soft touch of romance and compassion but Honey Irani has strong views when it comes to violence against women.
“Rapists must be executed in public and those seeking dowry in marriage should also be condemned in public,” she said.
In an interview with Indian Newslink, Honey moaned that a large number of people did not understand today’s youth.
“Times have changed and so has the outlook of the society. Parents should understand the mindset of today’s teenagers and not pressurise them to accept their ideas of education and social behaviour,” she said.
Honey said she was appalled at the rising number of suicides among young girls.
The actor-turned scriptwriter launched her career in writing with a short story, which pleased her former husband Javed Akthar and Producer-director Yash Chopra, who decided to use it for a movie script. That was Aaina (1993), which made her a playwright by her own right.
“Scripts of the yesteryear Cinema reflected serious themes with a volley of emotions. But the modern cine-goers prefer variety. There must be romance, action, thrills – everything in fact that should keep them interested. Versatility is therefore important,” she said.
Honey has given a series of hits through her screenplay. These include Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, Koi Mil Gaya, Krrish and Har Pall.
She is currently busy scripting Krrish II.
