Rare Mercedes Benz beauties at Classic Car Show

Ten free tickets from us for Classic Car Show on February 10

Thirty-four rare and valuable Mercedes-Benz from 1928 to 2015, valued at over $12.5 million, will be the star attraction at the 2019 NZ Classic Car Ellerslie Classic Car Show scheduled to be held on Sunday, February 10, 2019 at Ellerslie.

The Mercedes-Benz Club of Auckland collection will be the most valuable and best Mercedes display ever seen in New Zealand and will include Intermarque Concours “Best Restoration” winners from over the past 20 years,

A two-car Mercedes-Benz Club entry won the event in 2018 scoring the highest ever points awarded in the show’s 47 event history – making the club host for 2019.

Value assessment

Event Organising Committee Chairman Garry Boyce, a passionate and knowledgeable Concours-winning Mercedes-Benz owner, said that club experts assessed all 34 cars and calculated a total worth of over $12,500,000.

They include a 1928 SK Roadster reconstruction, a 1938 (540,000)  Special Roadster, and three 300 SL Gullwings including a 1955 300 SL loaned by the Southward Car Museum. This will be the first time the three 300 SLs in New Zealand will be seen in the same place at the same time.

There will also be 1950s and 1960s models including the country’s ‘Best 300D,’ huge limousines, and a reworked 1964 220 SEC that’s about to be shipped to China to compete in the 2019 Beijing to Paris Rally.

The Collectibles

The line-up reflects this year’s Classic Cover display theme, “The Collectibles,” where some clubs will show what makes their marques collectible and “must have.”

As in previous years, the Show has attracted top prestige and performance car dealerships, as well as some 70 car clubs from around the country displaying vehicles from early 1900s to modern exotics valued from thousands to $4 million each.

The calibre of many vehicles reflects the international reputation of the New Zealand  restorations industry whose work has taken laurels at California’s Pebble Beach Intermarque Concours and featured at other classic car competitions around the world.

Range of new Cars

On the new vehicle front, the Giltrap Group, will show the latest from Aston Martin, Audi, Bentley, Jaguar, Lamborghini, Land Rover, Porsche, Volvo and more. Alfa Romeo, and Maserati are back with a stunning line up along with first-time exhibitors Renault and Infiniti.

Nominated charity to publicise their work at the event via a free display site is this year, the Prostate Cancer Foundation of NZ Inc.

About the Ellerslie Event

The Ellerslie event is about more than just a car show.

It is New Zealand’s only professionally judged classic car restoration event made possible by generous sponsorship from Meguiar’s, Classic Cover Insurance and New Zealand Classic Car magazine.

The best cars, entered individually or as club teams, vie for awards ranging from the Intermarque Team Shield to Masters’ Class for individual vehicles, and best unrestored “Survivor.”

Tours d’Elegance

Each year, the day before the show, the MG Car Club organises a day-long, Auckland-wide Meguiar’s “Tours d’Elegance” departing from six destinations to end up at Vellenoweth Green in St Heliers.

The show is always held on the second Sunday in February, and over the decades, has become the highlight of the New Zealand car lovers’ calendar.

It takes a year and committee of 10 men and women representing car clubs to organise– and it is all voluntary with dozens of host-club workers on the day.

Already, they are thinking ahead to next year, and long-term, the 50th event in 2021. So, while the show will be held on February 10, 2019, reviewing will ensue to ensure that the Show in following year is even better.
