The corridors of Sky Theatre at Auckland’s SkyCity will reverberate the melodious voice of Rachit Bhatia on Saturday, March 29, 2025, turning it into a musical journey punctuated with nostalgia and dignity.
While neither Rachit nor his talent is new to thousands of New Zealanders, his Concerts are always awaited with anxiety for at each of these, he brings to the fore a fresh blend of musical talent, along with a choice of songs that have stood the test of time.
“The Hindi film industry has been the home for scores of lyricists, composers, conductors, singers, artists, and actors for more than 70 years and hence choosing songs to present in a three-hour Concert is itself a great challenge. The anxiety is to satisfy a diverse audience that has been a part of my life all these years. I hope to present a selection of songs that have become immortal over the past seven decades,” he said, speaking to Indian Newslink.
The Legends of Bollywood
The forthcoming Concert will feature ‘The Legends of Bollywood,’ singers and music directors who have spelt the success of scores of Hindi films, catapulting the careers of actors and performing artists. Rachit will be joined by Ankita Ghatani, known to our readers as a talented singer and compere, Reshma Rajendran, a promising musician and his Australia-based brother Sanchit. Junoo (Stutie) Sharma, known for her high-velocity performance and vivacity, will be the Master of Ceremonies.
From Guru Dutt, Talal Mahmood, Mohammed Rafi and Mukesh to Manna Dey, Kishore Kumar and Kumar Sanu and from S D Burman, Shankar-Jaikishan, Kalyanji-Anandji, Laxmikant-Pyarelal to R D Burman (and many others over the years), Rachit’s Dil Chahta Hai promises an evening of excellence. The support of an orchestra rich in experience will add value to the show.
Versatility and Vivacity combined
Critics agree that Rachit’s singing talent is extraordinary. His voice, rich and melodious, has the power to transport listeners to a realm of pure bliss. Whether it is a soulful Ghazal or an upbeat Bollywood number, his versatility and ability to convey deep emotions through is akin to a painter creating a masterpiece with every stroke of the brush. If Music is the universal language of mankind, his fans represent the broad spectrum of our communities.
In a report published in Indian Newslink (July 15, 2004), we had said, “Displaying maturity far beyond his years, 15-year-old Rachit Bhatia is a darling of the masses, with increasing popularity for his capabilities, which include singing, dancing and acting. This teenager is focused, does not get carried away and has his head fixed firmly on his shoulders. Which is why, the Form Five Pakuranga College student was cool when reportedly told by music directors in India that he could be a hit in the music industry. But the young man agreed with his parents education was a priority and plans to pursue a career in Computer Engineering.”
A Prodigy from the Start
Prodigies typically begin early, and so did Rachit. His father Rajesh Bhatia recalled when he was just three years old, Rachit captivated an audience at a family wedding in Rajasthan. His innocent yet powerful rendition of a traditional song left everyone in awe. It was as if a tiny bird had taken flight, singing its heart out for the world to hear. This early display of talent was a harbinger of the remarkable career that lay ahead.
For over two decades, his parents have been the wind beneath Rachit’s wings, joined by his wife Aishwarya since their marriage in 2014. Their commitment to promoting young talents is akin to a lighthouse guiding ships safely to shore. Their unwavering support has been instrumental in shaping Rachit’s career and helping him reach new heights.
Rachit’s creativity extends to the world of lyricists and since his formative years, he has penned about 50 songs, the most ‘loveable’ of which was indubitably the song that he composed as he proposed to Aishwarya a year or so before their wedding.
He hopes to present a couple of his own songs at the forthcoming Concert.
The role of the art critics in media in promoting young talents can be compared to a potter moulding clay into beautiful pottery. They recognise raw talent and provide the necessary tools and opportunities for it to shine. Through their consistent efforts, they have created a nurturing environment where artists like Rachit can thrive. As the proverb goes, “A rising tide lifts all boats,” and Indian Newslink has certainly lifted many young talents to prominence.
Community and Culture
As Rachit Bhatia continues to grow as an artist, the future looks incredibly bright. His upcoming Dil Chahta Hai Concert is just one of many milestones in his career. With the continued support of his family and the community, there is no doubt that Rachit will achieve even greater heights. His journey is a testament to the power of talent, hard work, and unwavering support.
Rachit Bhatia’s journey from a talented young singer to a celebrated artist is a story of passion, dedication, and unwavering support.
