Politicians to face Indian community

The voting public in general and members of the Indian community in particular would have an opportunity to evaluate the policies and programmes of various political parties, which may help them to decide on their exercising their franchise.

The New Zealand Indian Central Association Special Committee for the Conclave is organising the event hosted by the Manukau Indian Association (MIA) on June 28 at the Ellerslie Event Centre (80 Ascot Avenue, Auckland) with a working lunch commencing at 1230 pm.

Committee Chairman and MIA President Veer Khar said that the forthcoming programme aims to create a ‘wish list,’ ask questions and expect answers from leaders and/or supporters of political parties.

“We have invited National, Labour, Greens, NZ First, Internet and Maori Parties to address the community and the response has been enthusiastic,” he said.

Mr Khar has appealed to people of Indian origin in New Zealand to suggest issues of importance that could be discussed at the ‘Conclave.’

“They may also express their concerns and expectations on or before June 20. We will forward their queries to the political parties to enable them to present their stand more effectively at our event,” Mr Khar said.

He said that wide press coverage before and after the meeting will enable the community to understand the issues involved and relate them to the political parties.
