For three-year-old Chloe Crump from Tauranga having the flu is life threatening, as she has obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), brittle asthma and bronchiolitis.

Rachel Crump, Chloe’s mother says, “Last year Chloe had a horrific case of influenza and following that severe respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), both leaving her hospitalized for days with struggling lungs.”

“We can’t stress enough how getting flu vaccine could have prevented this and the potential damage it has now caused.”

The flu vaccination not only protects you from influenza, but also helps protect those in the community that are more vulnerable.

According to Health Minister Jonathan Coleman, so far 1.2 million New Zealanders have been immunised against the flu this year.

The Asthma and Respiratory Foundation NZ sends the urgent reminder that for those who have not yet had their flu vaccination, it is not too late to do so.

The vaccine is available for free until 31 July for people 65 years of age and over and those under 65 who have a medical condition such as asthma or chronic respiratory condition.

Influenza can be anywhere, “Don’t get it. Don’t give it.”
