Born in Labasa, Fiji, Dr Nand’s journey into medicine was fuelled by a desire to serve, heal and uplift those in need. He pursued his medical degree at the University of the South Pacific in collaboration with Sydney University, equipping himself with the knowledge and expertise required for a career in specialised surgery. His passion for excellence led him to further his training at some of the world’s most renowned institutions, including Freeman Hospital in the United Kingdom, Toronto General Hospital in Canada, and Westmead Hospital in Australia. These experiences shaped him into an adult cardiac and thoracic surgeon expert, cementing his reputation as a leading figure in the field.
Based in Auckland, Dr Nand held appointments at Auckland City Hospital, Mercy Specialists Centre and Allevia Hospital, where he performed intricate procedures ranging from coronary artery bypass surgery to mitral and aortic valve repairs. His expertise extended to minimally invasive lung surgeries, complex chest deformity corrections and advanced cardiac device implantations. His deep understanding of aortic surgery, including valve-sparing root replacements and aortic arch procedures, demonstrated his mastery and precision as a surgeon.
