The winner of a healthy food campaign has inspired her family to follow the right advice and become advocates of good food for good health.
Sarojini Kumar was among the winners of the Eat Right, Be Active and say ‘Jai Ho!’ Campaign at a draw held as a part of the Fiji Festival at the Telstra Clear Pacific Events Centre on February 26 and 27 (see related story on Page 9).
The ongoing Campaign is a Health Ministry initiative to raise awareness among people from South Asia, especially those of Bangladeshi, Bhutanese, Indian, Maldivian, Nepali, Pakistani and Sri Lankan origin.
It also includes people of Indian origin born in New Zealand, Indo-Fijians and South African Indians.
“These people have a high risk of developing heart disease and diabetes. The Campaign also provides information on how these diseases can be prevented or delayed by doing more physical activity and making simple changes to what we eat,” a Health Ministry notification said.
The Hamper contained ‘Eat Right, Be Active and say Jai Ho branded goodies,’ a Non-stick Frying Pan, a Backyard Cricket Set, a Backyard Volleyball Set, Fruit & Vegetable Vouchers valued at $100 and Year’s subscription to ‘Healthy Food Magazine.’
Ms Kumar said after learning about the Campaign and winning the Hamper, her family is further motivated to eat right and becoming more active.
She was inspired to do more research on the subject, while her 18-year-old son is already a big influence on their diet- ensuring they eat the right amount of fruit and vegetables.
