Two members of the Indian community in South Auckland were honoured for their services at a function held last month.
Tikka Rajinder Bedi and Jasbir Singh Dhillon were each presented with the ‘Otara-Papatoetoe Community Volunteer Award’ for their outstanding services to the people of Indian origin in general and Punjabis in particular.
Otara-Papatoetoe Local Board Chairman John McCracken presented the awards at a ceremony held at the Papatoetoe Sports Centre on July 25, 2012.
Mr Bedi is known to Indian Newslink readers as the Assistant Secretary of the Auckland Sikh Society (which owns and manages Shri Dasmesh Darbar Gurdwara in Papatoetoe), an educator at the Papatoetoe Historical Society and as an interpreter at the Auckland and Counties Manukau District Health Boards.
His other community credentials include Assistant General Secretary, New Zealand Indian Central Association, Executive Member (and former Secretary) Manukau Indian Association and Executive Member, New Zealand Punjabi Cultural Association.
