It would be a “Monsoon of Music’ in the otherwise hot and tropical Malaysia next month, as one of our home-grown groups undertakes a tour of the country.
‘Crimson Rain,’ an Auckland based four-man band, has been making waves on the contemporary musical scene since its establishment two years ago. As we had reported earlier, if its early achievements were any indication, ‘Crimson Rain’ would flow into many parts of the world, immersing enthusiasts and fans in melody and rhythm (Indian Newslink, October 15, 2010).
Now, the Group has cross-border connection with Indo-Fijian Avi Pranish (Lead Guitarist), New Zealander European Chris Angell (Base Guitarist) and Malaysian Indian Pras Kumar (Vocalist and Guitarist).
According to Avi, the band was named after two factors that influence humanity.
“Crimson is the colour of blood, also associated with strong emotions, passion and honesty, while Rain influences land and people, varying from calmness to torrential intensity. Blended, the two words produce an intoxicating mix,” he told Indian Newslink.
According to him, the Group aimed to write its own songs that are understood by all, including groove and soul musical experiences of their formative years.
“We have been inspired by groove-and-soul-driven bands like ‘Incubus,’ ‘Red Hot Chilli Peppers,’ ‘Karnivool’ and ‘Filter’ and “Heavier bands like ‘Seether,’ ‘Staind,’ ‘Linkin Park,’ ‘Tool,’ ‘Breaking Benjamin’ and ‘Nirvana.’ Classical and flamenco artistes like Jesse Cook have also influenced us,” he said.
‘Crimson Rain’ has been pouring into the album market, with ‘One by One’ (an Extended Play produced by Ben Ruegg), three singles ‘Why,’ ‘The Mask Within’ and ‘Are You Happy’ (produced by Zorran Mendonsa, nephew of Loy Mendonsa from the Bollywood music trio Shankar Ehsaan Loy).
Avi said the band would be stationed in Kuala Lumpur for a month.
“We look forward to doing two shows in the Malaysian capital on July 13 and 15, in addition to collaborative concert with legendary guitarist Karl Cromok and joint shows with local artistes.
“A few media interviews are also on the cards and we hope that these would lead to some more shows. We are confident,” he said.
